Temperature: Cool breezes through the open dorm window … ~11c?
Food: All sorts, from airport/hotel cafeteria fare to “Polar Bear Inn” musk ox burgers and musk ox panang! … from “yum!” to “huh?” …
So … its official, more or less. “Bag drag” at 0530, breakfast run at 0630, passport check at 0730, transport to ramp at 0745, off-deck at 0815. Like clockwork, =D
Its been a fun science season. I’ve purchased souvenirs in town, I’ve hassled some of the logistics folks at the KISS building (Joe and “Bear”), and, today, I got to drive to Russel’s Glacier. IT was awesome! The rock in the shadow of the glacier stretched forth like so many strips of colored ribbon, echoing the “deep time” of their formation in their intricate curls and swirls. We witnessed two calving events that, while small, were breathtaking. And we were reunited with some Summit’eers (Dave, Lana, Chelsea, Zach). Brad, one of the “safety guys” that conducted an inspection of Summit Camp, also returned to Kangerlussuaq, and we got to catch up over panang.
Its been great, great fun … and while I know I’ll return in less than a month to this incredible place, I am still sad to be leaving. What a time … what a time.
