While camping on the outskirts of Kangerlussuaq, we were fortunate to have several encounters with the wildlife of Greenland. Most mornings, we would pile into our trucks to head out to our field sites for the day. I’d always have my coffee mug in hand and my eyes peeled out the window. The landscapes alone are certainly beautiful enough to warrant these stares, but often we were treated to even more! We saw muskoxen, caribou, arctic hare, and even phalarope chicks – we felt like we were on an Arctic safari!

I’m so jealous that you saw a phalarope! And chicks, too!
Zac and Alden: Great images. I feel as if I am on the NW Passage voyage we took in 2010 when we were up close and personal with muskoxen and polar bears. Our trip began at Kangerlussuaq, so we enjoy following the progress of the IGERT researchers each summer. Keep the photos coming.
Thanks, Mary! Taking cool photos was easy, we ran into so many amazing creatures! It’s more difficult to take a bad photo in this place!
